Services

We offer appointments at our office, near Foothill Village in SLC, or via telemedicine.

Our new patient appointments last 60-90 minutes depending on complexity. We call this the “information gathering” visit. By the end of the visit, we will have an initial treatment plan which may include blood tests or other types of testing.

We typically schedule our first follow up appointment 3-4 weeks after the first visit, to review test results and finalize the next stage of your treatment plan.

  • Physical exams: we offer physical exams at our office.

  • Pediatrics: we see children for naturopathic speciality care for conditions such as allergies, digestion concerns, insomnia, and nutritional support for many conditions. Please note, we are not pediatricians and do not offer well child checks.

  • Types of testing: we order blood tests through conventional laboratories, as well as specialty testing through functional diagnostic laboratories. We do not do offer live blood cell analysis, applied kinesiology, or hair analysis.

  • IVs: at this time, we are not offering IV therapy in our office. We may refer for IV nutrients as appropriate.

Telehealth

Both Dr. Kate and Dr. Mary offer telehealth appointments to patients who are located in Utah at the time of the appointment. We use a secure, HIPAA compliant videoconferencing service.

Dr. Mary is also licensed in Washington or Oregon and can see patients via telemedicine in those states.

Of course, the ability to do a physical exam is limited in a telehealth setting. If you are being seen exclusively via telehealth, we recommend that you have another doctor whom you see regularly for physical exams.

Scheduling

New and established patients can schedule themselves online at: http://saltlakenaturopathic.janeapp.com

You may also call the office (801-783-3801), or email us (info@saltlakenaturopathic.com), and our wonderful Virtual Assistant, Aimee, will help get you scheduled. If you call, please leave a message with your name and number and Aimee will get back to you.

After speaking with Aimee, if you still have questions about whether naturopathic medicine is right for you, she can set you up with an intro call with one of our naturopathic physicians. (Please note, we are not able to provide medical advice during the call.)

Insurance

A general note about insurance: as naturopathic physicians, we are committed to providing integrative care. Unfortunately, the insurance model limits both the time doctors can spend with their patients, and the tests they will allow. By operating outside the insurance model, we are able to spend more time with you and order tests that will be helpful but that insurance does not consider “medically necessary.” We feel this is important to our ability to optimally care for our patients.

Appointments: We are not able to take insurance or bill insurance directly for appointments. However, many of our patients either use an HSA card for their appointments, or submit claims to their insurance to be reimbursed for appointments.

Blood tests: Most major health insurance plans cover blood tests that are considered medically necessary. We always recommend checking with your insurance company before having a blood test done. Medicare, Medicaid, and Tri-Care do not cover orders made by naturopathic physicians. For tests that are not covered, we have relationships with multiple lab testing companies to offer deep discounts on list prices.

Prescriptions: prescription medications are covered for most of our patients. Prescriptions that are made by compounding pharmacies may be covered.

Supplements: Many of our patients use an HSA card for supplements that are prescribed by our doctors.

Fees & Policies

Fees: Our new patient fee is $425 for adults and teenagers. For younger children, our new patient visit is $325. Follow up appointments are based on time and are $160 for a regular (<30 minute) appointment, plus $60 per additional 15 minutes. Payment is required at the time of the appointment.

3 Day Cancellation Policy: As a courtesy to our doctors and other patients, we ask that you provide as much notice as possible if you need to change or cancel an appointment. We have a three day cancellation policy. Cancelling or changing an appointment with less than three days’ notice will incur a fee of 50% of the appointment charge. No shows are when a patient cancels the same day or doesn’t show up to an appointment, and will incur a fee of 100% of the appointment charge.
